Stiles in Clay

Pit Firing Technique by Chris Stiles

Pit Firing Technique
by Chris Stiles

Chris uses an alternative firing technique known as pit firing which gives each bird its unique look.  This firing process is one of the oldest techniques used by man.  The clay birds are eased into the fire and covered with wood, sawdust, seaweed and other burnable materials which produce the colors.

Chris Stiles is a California artist based in Los Angeles.  He carefully pit fires these majestic birds to create unique works of art in an unmatched and unique palette of colors.
